The North Winnipeg Isshin-Ryu Karate Club & Takiotoshi Aikido Dojo

North Winnipeg Isshin Ryu Karate Club

The NWIKC (North Winnipeg Isshin Ryu Karate Club) and Takiotoshi Dojo are both nonprofit martial clubs operating out of the West Kildonan Branch #30 Legion comprised of a number on instructors listed below whom unselfishly volunteer their evening hours several times a week and have been doing so for many years now. The NWIKC club has been operating for the past 31 years in Winnipeg’s north area founded by our Sensei Denis Girardine, originally located in the North YMCA of who has retired yet still remains training diligently to this day.

Takiotoshi dojo was founded by Sensei David Ross and Risk Stephens 12 years ago and has also made the legion its home base. Instructors come from all walks of life and have a variety of backgrounds. Our fees go towards our facility rental which the legion has graciously partnered with us and offers us a very favorable rate, club equipment and registration for kids or families when funds are tight, tournaments, seminars (ladies self-defense classes, home invasion, children’s strange awareness and other style invitations), newsletters, club events (Halloween, Christmas, Easter and a wind up summer picnic to name a few).

Membership at the Karate, Aikido and Jui-Jitsu clubs are made up family groups and individuals from all over Winnipeg and surrounding areas. Ages range from 5 years of age to 70 years of age.  Karate is offered Monday and Thursday evenings, Aikido and Jui-jitsu Tuesday evenings.
